We constantly meet people who either spend time or are moving to the Nosara area. Their reasons for arriving are as varied as their personal stories, but they all share one thing in common:
They choose to live here. They are not here by accident.
They seek out the place and find the freedoms and beauty it offers compelling.
People who can choose to be anywhere in the world are rapdily discovering the Beaches of Nosara.
Come visit and discover the natural part of you that comes alive here.
We believe that Costa Rica, and specifically the Guanacaste region's time has arrived. What makes Guanacaste (the northwest region of Costa Rica) so attractive to many foreign investors and individualistic lifestyle seekers? Consider these points.
Coastlines and low-elevation mountains with incredible natural beauty and views
Easy proximity to the United States by air
A long time commitment to democratic government
Budding capitalism and low tax rates
Close ties to the United States economy
Americans are welcomed in the culture
More than fifty years of political stability
Low tax rates and a live-and-let-live culture
All these things create a place of unparalleled opportunity in Central America
The key elements are highly desirable coastal properties at comparatively low prices, low building costs, a very reasonabe cost of living that includes quality and affordable medical care. This makes Costa Rica a very attractive choice for retirees, quality-of-life seekers and investors.
A foreigner's land ownership rights are guaranteed by the Costa Rican constitution. This is an important consideration when examining an investment or commitment to living in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is approximately the size of West Virginia in the United States and has nearly five million citizens. The majority live in San Jose/'s Central Valley in the center of the country.
Costa Rica already has a very large group of expatriates from the United States living in Costa Rica. Although a Spanish speaking country, English is widely spoken, and willingly attempted by locals in the areas frequented by foreigners, such as the Gold Coast of the Nicoya Peninsula. Many compare the northwestern pacific side of Costa Rica to be economically similar to California in the 1950s. Parts of the coastline do seem similar, but here the warm Pacific equatorial waters are even more welcoming.
A major difference between other western countries and Costa Rica is the government's monopoly ownership of the telecommunications, insurance, electric utility and some medical systems in the country. Privatization of these sectors has been slow to progress, but there are recent signals that these issues are again under scrutiny by Costa Ricans. The Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) has a draft in the United States Congress signed by the Costa Rican government which includes privatization initiatives that could pave the way for modernization/privatization in some of these areas. This would improve the infrastructure of the country and promote foreign investment. There are multi-national corporations who have already made commitments here, such as Intel which now operates plant in San Jose with over 3,000 employees. This is but one example of the productive and modernizing path Costa Rica is choosing.
Costa Rica is at a crossroads, as is perhaps all of Central America. The problems of deforestation and encroachment on the country's world famous national park system are ever present concerns. The economy suffers from inflation and a high national government debt. Those who love the country and believe in its future want to play a part in strengthening what is special about the country's natural resources while at the same time develop its economic future for its citizens.
Costa Rica is the leading country in the Americas for democracy, capitalism and most importantly peace in the region. It will take economic resources and the commitment of like-minded people to promote both preservation, sustainable development and a better future for the Costa Rican people.
Can Costa Rica strike a balance between growth, modernization and its natural resources? Only time will tell, and it remains a critical choice and a hope of many.
